Cricutting Fabric~! Giveaway!

Getting crafty!

I am back to using onsies! I had left the onsies, but with cloth diapers #3, she has a love of hearing the velcro rip - SO THERE GOES HER DIAPERS! So the onsies are a means of control. Of course, this also means I had no onsies in the house so off to the store. Walmart had the girlie ones for $11, ouch! I got them, but is 5 really enough.

Stage left, Joann's logo please walk in! Over there using my flier! Lo and behold solid white onsies for $9! And I had a 40% off coupon! So I got out with 5 for $6. Well you can't have just white onsies! So I got out my Cricut and my iron -on adhesive and beautifying I went.

So here is what I used: onsies, iron-on adhesive, and fabric scraps.

I cut the the adhesive just short of the fabric swatch and ironed it on medium heat setting. I kept the paper on the back and put it on the cricut matt.

I used the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge.

Then I peeled the fabric from the matt.

and iron it on!

So here is my give away! Post me a comment on this posting and I will send you a 11"x17" piece of iron on adhesive so you can start beautifying! I will have the drawing June 5th, 8 pm.

Groceries for the week!

I will admit, I did decide to skip Publix until tomorrow. So my initial grocery trip was first Winn Dixie and then to Walmart.

Winn Dixie

Now this is the first time that I was using the method that I learned from Kim F. about her couponing process. So I took my list and all my coupons (uncut) and went to town searching for my megadeals. It was a bit of a challenge to put it lightly, mostly because of my ungraceful awkwardness with pushing the double decker cart, clipboard, calculator, and pen. After a few isles, I had it somewhat under control. I tore the coupons out as I put the items in the basket and stuck them in my pocket. I added the cost on the calculator with the coupon discount (so I could track what I was spending). So I did my shopping, made a few alterations to my list (adding and subtracting). I got to the end and went to the check out lane. Weww!

Things to keep in mind at Winn-Dixie! Those $10 off a $50 purchase is $50 before coupons! Woo hoo hoo! Check this out, we are going to have some fun! My totals were!

Spent (the money that came out of my pocket!) $32.89
Winn Dixie Savings (Reward Card coupon, sales) $53.94
My printer coupons that I linked in the other post: $20.00
Total money saved!!!! $73.94

So I got a little over $100 in groceries with only $32.89 out of my pocket. Now $6 of that was some crystal light, I bought for my mom. See I didn't need it, but I had the coupons. I needed to get to $50 to use the $10 coupon, so I gave it away (so to speak).

Man, I am looking around. I thought the balloons were going to start fall from the ceiling, some confetti! But really no one gave a hoot that I just won the coupon lottery and got paid for buying BBQ sauce. But the lady behind me was having a look of shock at my the numbers. Whatever, my pantry is being stocked for pennies. And I walked out with another $10 coupon for $50!

On to the next store.

Wal-mart
This was just to pick up what wasn't cost effective at Winn-Dixie. My cash always feel the safest at Walmart, because for the most part, without trying, I will get a better cost on products I need, as long as you do not get sucked into the other departments. If you have no control, never step foot out of Grocer side or go some where else.

I did run into a young family there, that allowed me to share my know-all of being frugal in the isles. Their education experiences shocked me that this little bit of VERY IMPORTANT information might not be known to everyone. So here we go!

Price labels on the shelves.
You know when you are comparing the prices of a couple of different items, you are seeing the big price number $2.99, $3.99 what have yah. Well if you look closely, you see a smaller number. This smaller number is extremely important, the unit price. That smaller number might say 25.4 cents (that is the line through the c)per ounce. Well this tells you how much you are actually paying for the product, so you can compare apples to apples. Here is my example:

Bag of rice. You are debating between 2 sizes and brands.
Brand A (14 oz bag) for $0.99
the unit price (the little number on the tag) 0.07 per ounce

Brand B (18 oz bag) for $1.15
the unit price 0.06 per ounce

So at first look, you might think hey Brand a is under a buck, Good Deal. But the real deal is the Brand B, because for every ounce you get, you are paying less.

Now be careful! BIGGER IS NOT BETTER! Walmart sugar, 5 pound bag is 2, $0.40 a pound. Well if you buy in the next bag up, it is about $ 0.60 a pound!

My friends check the unit cost on the labels!

Back to my bragging session, my blog, about me!

Walmart grocery bill: $32.84

Budgeted splurges! My budget gives me guilt free spending, because I know how much I have to spend, I plan my menus around what is on sale and what is in my pantry and anything left over is mine to do the other things that are needed (i.e., clothes, recreation, fast food, decorating, homeschool, christmas gifts)

My splurge was on:
6 rubber totes at $3 each (68Qt size) on clearance for a total of $18
I am using them to store my children's clothes at a friends house. So I wanted to get nice ones that match and in excellent condition, so I won't clutter or disgrace her surroundings.

8 ft kiddie pool at $20.
I had contiplated having a large above ground pool. I had a nice 18 foot one given to us and it only needs a liner, that is about $100. I then sat back excitedly, telling an uncle about the joy the kids and I are going to have with it. He then began to describe the amount of work and it's cost to maintain, approximately $150 a month. WOOOOO NELLY!!!! SAY WHAT! I AM NOT GIVING UP $35 a week from my $150 spending allowance to a WATER BUCKET! Like I need to spend that much time with a pool, when I have just conquered my laundry for the first time. NO no NO, that is NOT going to happen to this momma! $20 bucks for a dang 8 foot pool that I am going to throw away in October, HECK OF A DEAL! LOL!!

Alphabet place matt and washable crayons $3.97
this one goes under homeschool! It is the lamenated place mats. I then got the washable crayons that have the easy grip triangle shape. This helps #1 grip it the best for her little hands as she learns to identify and write the alphabet. The matt will be used for the kids (excellent resource for a $1). The crayons will be stored separately, so they will not get mixed up in the crayon box. These crayons are the washable, thus costing more. At the begining of the school year is when I pick up a ton of Crayola boxes for $0.20 for 24. Because I love new crayons with perfect tips.

Tonights grocery total: $65.73
Budgeted "resources" (i.e. all others) $44.91

Publix will be approximately $18!

I hope you enjoy. My next shopping list will be out about Thursday or Friday!

Monday, May 25th 2009 shopping deals

I am a definite once a week shopper. I was shopping on Sundays and then the Lord got on my heart and so I stopped. Now I plan for Monday. Like I said earlier, I am trying to get to once a month shopping and cutting my budget even lower. So the following is my sale shopping list. There are even more deals, but this is my blog and its about me! So these are the things I am taking advantage of and how.

There are a few things I have on my list that I would normally not buy. I am going to take these deals and get them and store them for later. I think my dh (darling husband) will think I am lavishing him during din-din. Like the Mayo, I am bulk buying so I will not have to buy again for a while. Mayo has excelent shelve life. But the Sour cream, I will be making homemade mac and cheese with that and ham for a meal. We do not eat a lot of potatoes, but oh I love baked potatoes.

the jury is still out on the kool aid canister, since for $2 I can get a 5 lb bag of sugar and at $0.20 a packet for a 1/2 gallon of mix. I am not sure if I feel that the convenience of the canister is worth is.

Now I am going to take this list and go through what I have in the pantry/freezer and create my menu for 2-3 weeks. Then I will complete my list by Monday night. I will try and post the list as soon as I can.

Give you a hint on how I am doing. This past monday I bought everything we needed for the week for $38.88. Now grant it, I am taking into account that we will be out of town at a family reunion Friday PM (still eating at home before leaving, unless I can get a Hardee's burger worked out) and arriving home Monday in time to eat at home.

A fresh start!

I am in a very reorganizing mood. Iwas even thinking of moving myblog, but instead I thinkI will be doing some reorganizing. I have been very busy reorganizing and learning new tricks to save money and do with less. I have made a few projects but just on an as needed basis. I have a few alterations I need to do, a little of this and that.

So here are some of the changes I am considering:

I am going to group all my crafts into one tab, so you can go straight there and get looking.

I am trying to shop 2 times a month or once, to try and reduce my cost at the store (i.e., no more impulse shopping). So I am always getting asked from friends how. So I am thinking about posting my menu on line. Also then I should also do a listing of my recipes. And my shopping list. Along with the good deals I can find.

Weww. That was a mouth full. Or keyboard full? So I am also trying to get things organized. I am starting #1 with homeschooling this September. So I am on a frantic goal to declutter by September 1st and get this house together like a well oiled clunker!

So at this point! I think I am reorganizing my focus with: crafting, budgets, menus, shopping deals, homeschooling, and some good free activities that is going on in SW florida.

Let me know what you think! Please. I want to be sharing with you, what I am learning and implementing and any ideas you have!

One small square foot in the house One huge step for trish kind!

So if you have had the pure joy and privelage of visiting my house, you will know that I have an overwhelming pride about my house. and an uncontrollable clutter problem. lurking clothes, toys, just plain old junk in every corner and creavise of my home. My house is a blend of hand made treasures made or refurnishd y my father. That I will truely never part with. I am also furnished by every moving garbage pile or someone is getting rid of, that neither me or my husband can part with. Thus, the 3 recliners on the back porch.

I endlessly hound my poor dear friends to come help me throw things away, it is just something that does not come naturally to me, nor does picking up after myself. WOW, true candid confessions of a horder.

Well I am in the midst of a change my friends, with the help of the almighty to change my heart. I do not need clutter in my life to make me happy. There I said, just keep repeating it Trish and it will be okay. "I DO NOT NEED CLUTTER TO BE HAPPY!" Ahh. Well if I did have less stuff, it would be easier for me to put my toys away. Ohh, if it would be easier to put my toys away, wow maybe it would be easier for my children to put their toys away. Hmm. I think I can do this.

Well a few excusses out their that I foundly hold dear is: 1) "I just don't know how to decorate it. So I really don't have a place to put it." 2) "Well my house was built in the '50s and there are these tiny little rooms and no closets and narrow openings, ahh it's making me crazy!" 3) "Well everything is so mismatched it will not work together, I have to wait until I can trade up for something better." 4) "Have you seen my husband? I can not find him. Ahh he has brought more home! Ohh, I have to do this first, before I can find a home for anything and he still has not done it." (currently, this is in reference to the frames I want hung. NO I cannot do it myself. I have concrete coated interior walls and I have already done a lot of damage with the hammer drill)

Alright enough with the excuses, they are making my head hurt and my feet when I step on MORE JUNK! So I tackled the smallest room in the house! My entryway, yes it is quite possibly smaller than my craft room. Measuring 54" by 46", yes folks I did say INCHES! But for a clutter bug like me, you have to start somewhere. Here is what it looks like so far.

1. painted the cave, I mean room, with leftover paint that I mixed. Peach and yellow. $0

2. Moved in the darling husband's beloved book shelve that we have had since college. It once was the mighty collection of our VHS collection with our ultra cool CDS. again $0.

3. NOw I had to start making designations on the shelves, otherwise like everything else in our house, the flat surface area will become another place to accumulate JUNK! I made a place for the library books. I don't want that to get mixed up in the house of junk. I took a flier board with a dry erase marker for quick notes. I put a couple of baskets from a garage sale and spray painted red. Baskets about $1, paint $0(left overs). Well I got the baskets there and then decided what to use them for, hmmm I could maybe ddd..d..d...dd.donate. Ahh it came out of my mouth. I could collect things by the door to mail. sounding good.

Well the major love my dh has for the book shelve is shoes. Yes, my dh love to stack shoes at the entry. Lovely. "come in, pleased to meet you. Oh no, we don't run an orphanage, these are just all our shoes" Well, the box please enter stage left. I went searching in the house for a box that would fit, to keep the kids shoes there. I am still in luck (for now) the shoes are small.

Here is my box. I used a diaper box and taped the lids up to give it more volume. I sprayed the front red, so that it would not show the diaper origins of the box through the fabric. Then I got my handy fabric glue out and voila!

Now the fabric cost me $2 a yard from walmart. I still have more so I could finish the box. BUT I am having some emotional reservations. I LOVE THIS FABRIC. Being a cheapo. I seen it and bought 1 yard to figure out how I wuld use it. Well I was going to make curtains. Went back and the whole bolt was gone! tears!!!! So this is all I have left and I am hording it. In three months, if nothing else is made, I might, maybe I will finish it.

Okay, with this done, maybe I will conquer the shoes today. Or paint a new wall. I do love how cheery it is. It feels clean.

Are you in a pickle?

This is my second batch! So far they have been real quick and easy with minimal effort. But I have to wait to eat them.
Here is how!
Cut cucumbers as desired and soak in water in fridge for about 2 hours. This gives its crunch. (Now I do this first thing in the morning and then after two hours, when I rember about them, is when I move to the next step.
Combine in a big pot with lid, 4 cp vinegar (white), 12 cp water, and 2/3 cp of pickling salt. While this is coming to a boil, I drain the cucs and put them into the jars.
I then add garlic and dill in each jar. The recipe I found said to spilt 16 cloves and 8 springs and 8 heads of dill weed between 2 jars. I did not think to plant dill yet, so I give mine about 1/2 tsp of dry dill and 1 tsp of diced garlic from the jar.
Next I pour the boiling vinegar water (after all the salt has dissolved into the jars). Put the lid one and boil bath it for 10 minutes. They must sit for 8 weeks and then you can eat.
